Manitoba Labour Market Outlook Projects Consistent Job Growth

Stable labour market requires skilled workersJust in time for Career and Workforce Development MonthThe Manitoba Labour Market Outlook Report for 2018–2024 has predicted consistent job growth in the province.

“This report shows Manitoba’s labour market is balanced, with the overall labour supply approximately equal to labour market demand,” said Blaine Pedersen, Minister of Growth, Enterprise and Trade.  “A total of 168,700 job openings are expected to be created between 2018 and 2024, with unemployment projected to decline slightly over the next five years.”

As noted in the press release, some of the report’s key findings include:

  • Manitoba will see approximately 24,100 total job openings each year.
  • Occupations expected to see the most openings are: sales and service, business, finance and administration, education, law, social services, and community and government services. This results in a combined total of 83,300 jobs.
  • Sixty per cent of future job openings will require some post-secondary education and training.
  • Overall, Manitoba’s labour market should remain balanced over the next seven years. The labour supply is adequate to meet demand.
