Off-Campus Library Services (OCLS)

OCLS is a service established to provide students enrolled in Campus Manitoba Courses with the materials needed to conduct research. Often, students in remote communities do not have access to essential books, journal articles or government documents. OCLS exists to provide distance education students with timely access to the types of information needed to do university level research.

OCLS provides Campus Manitoba Students with a number of services including:

• Ability to search for Books in our Library Catalog
• Access to over 100 databases indexing journals in a broad range of disciplines.
• Immediate online access to articles held in over 35,000 journals.
• Access to over 200 dictionaries, encyclopedias, atlases, thesauri, biographical dictionaries, language dictionaries, guides to literature, quotation dictionaries, and subject guides in Oxford Reference Online and Credo Reference.
• The distribution of books, journal articles, government documents, etc., to students in remote communities.
• On-site assistance with research topics via Campus Manitoba Coordinators, who are trained in doing library research.
• Research assistance from the library’s Off-Campus Library Services staff.
• Reciprocal Borrowers Cards allowing students to borrow items held in other university libraries across Canada.
• Library Research Guides for different e-resources.

Students can access the John E Robbins Library at Brandon University electronically from their Campus MB Centre or from a home or public library computer. If a student wishes to access from home, he or she should contact OCLS at Brandon University and for assistance in claiming their ID. The OCLS website is: http://www2.brandonu.ca/Library/OCLS/
